The Hospital Medicine Division of Children's Specialists consists of pediatricians who serve as attending physicians for inpatients at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. These physicians serve as a resource to all community primary care physicians who require or prefer hospital-based physician coverage for their patients.

The physicians of Rady Children's-Hospital Medicine Division do not have private outpatient practices, therefore they are solely dedicated to facilitating referrals and admission from primary care physicians. The Division pediatricians admit and follow inpatients, all the while keeping close communication with the patient's primary care physician. To ensure the best continuum of care for the patient, the pediatricians are committed to getting the child back under the care of their primary care physician as soon as possible. They also make themselves available as a resource to physicians after the patient is discharged.
Since the pediatricians encounter a wide variety of diagnoses and conditions, they offer a great deal of specialized knowledge and expertise in caring for pediatric and adolescent patients. They play an integral part in not only healing the patient, but also in assuring the child's over all well-being. The pediatricians at Rady Children's also provide the following services:
coordination of transports to and from hospitals throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties
phone consultation to community primary care physicians, specialists, and emergency physicians
consultations on or coordination of pre-surgery patients when appropriate
In addition, the physicians of the Pediatrics Division manage the pediatric training program for residents at Rady Children's Hospital. It is an opportunity to share their knowledge and skills with the future pediatricians of the community.
